学校生活で折り紙をひっそり続けていた身として、今になって思うのは…

・結局は見た目（残酷）と人柄 ※私がどうだったかはご想像にお任せします
Now I think from my perspective, when I was a student and playing origami alone.
・Anyway some says my works great
・Some may watch my behavior positively
・We're evaluated by personality & appearance after all
結局はやりたい事を好きなだけやってた方が心地良いし、そうしてイキイキ機嫌良く生きている人に、人は惹かれる気がするんですよね。

私の高校時代を振り返ると、まぁ色々ありましたが、折り紙を続けたことを後悔したことは一度もありません。むしろ、辞めていたら一生後悔していたことでしょう。今とても幸せですから。
Looking back on my high school days, even though there were good times and bad, now I don't regret continuing origami at all - not even for a second.
Honestly, I would have regretted if I had quit. Now I'm truly fulfilled.
私の今は、オリガミストとしての人生は、私が勝ち取ったものです。
I'm proud to say, I have built my life with my own hands.

A few classmates, in club activity friends, in other school, childhood friends. They're really precious for me.

自信なさげな人に、自己顕示したい中途半端なヤツは寄ってきます。そいつはドラゴンも折れなければ、佐藤ローズを仕上げるような技量も器量もないでしょう。彼らは対象が萎縮したりムキになったりするのを望み、マウントを取れたことに喜びを感じるような雑魚キャラです。それくらいしか人生の楽しみがないニヤついた人間に構っていると、せっかくの休み時間が台無しです。その時間で五角形カットのひとつくらいできたことでしょう。
Sometimes you may feel embarrassing to play origami.
Low confidence brings lame bully who want to show off.
They can't fold dragon or can't finish Sato rose precisely, and can't make their mind pure.
They hope you to timid or get angry, and like to increase the presence by looking down on you.
It's worthless to bother with a small fry who has nothing special, waste of time. Rather than that, you should spend time to fold something.
もし、あなたをバカにするバカな奴がいたら、「沈め折りもできない奴め。Closed Sinkしてやろうか」とでも思ってやれば良いのです。
「見てる人は見てる」と先程言いました。
誇りを持ってアートに向き合うあなたや、人知れず何かに打ち込んでいる誰かを、誰かが見ています。声をかけて、応援してくれるかもしれません。
もちろん、人をバカにする薄っぺらい人々のことも、誰かが見ています。勝手に評価を下げている可哀想な人を哀れんであげましょう。彼らは放っておいても、いずれ社会という蛇腹の中へ埋もれていきます。
If there's an idiot who makes fun of you, just imagine "You must not be able to sink fold, sink you!".
I said "Some may watch my behavior positively". They may watch you facing an art with proud, trying hard something alone. Some of them may empower you with a word.
Of course they may watch people who makes fun of you. Let's pity them lowering their own reputation. They eventually sink into a "pleats" of society.

「心からワクワクする何か」を、周りを気にして捨ててしまうのは簡単です。眩しく燃える情熱の炎に水をかけて、消してしまうのも簡単です。目の前の折り紙を翌朝のゴミに出して、書籍をブックオフで売って、そのへんのオシャレ雑誌でも買えば良いのです。
No action, no shame. But no chance. No identity, no individuality, no talent.
It's easy to trash your exciting thing from the bottom of your heart, while worrying about the surroundings. It's easy to extinguish your passion.
If you want, throw your origami paper soon, sell all your textbook out and get the fashionable clothes.
でも、モノとともに捨ててしまった自尊心は、どこへ行くのでしょうか。

We are different from the others, so we are embarrassing, proud, strong.

結論。
あんまり関係ないです。
It doesn't matter.
身も蓋もないことを言いますが、
友達ができるorできないを決定付けるのは折り紙じゃないです。
To be honest, origami will not decides whether we can make friends or not.
振り返ると、私のことを嫌いな人もいたと思うし、好いてくれる奇特な人も一定数いたと思っています。たぶん、それらの理由は折り紙ではない。
In my case, there were both people not only like me, and also dislike me. The determining factor wouldn't be origami.
「折り紙やってるから」という理由で離れる人は、そもそも友達だったのでしょうか？
私に対して「折り紙やってるから友達になりたくない」と思う人は、たぶん私も、その人と友達になりたくないでしょう。
当時親しかった友達は、私の折り紙を肯定してくれました。というか、友達ってそういうもんです。
皆から羨望されるほど多くはいませんが、大切な彼らのうちの何人かは、２０年経った今でも一緒に笑い合っています。
If there're people who leaves from you because you play origami, I can't help thinking about "I wonder they were true friend?".
At least, my friends at that time took my origami activity positive. In the first place, that's true "friend".
Not many, but I have important friends, and some of them are still close and contact each other.
寄りつく人を大切にして、離れる人は放っておけば良い。
ひねくれると嫌われますが、普通に接していれば大丈夫です。友達はできます。
You can choose who to spend your time with.
You don't have to be nervous, you can do it, you'll win friends.
Just don't be cynical to the surroundings.
クラスメイトに迎合する必要はありません。
同じ（でもちょっと人と違う、差し色とかダメージとか、そのへんで違いがわかる男感を出したい）服装、同じヘアスタイル、同じ今風（笑）の言葉、同じ立ち寄りスポット、同じ帰り道、同じ習い事。同じテレビ番組。
好きでもないことを真似するのは苦痛です。
好きなものは真似すれば良いし、違和感があれば真似しなきゃいい。
案外、自分を持たずフラフラした人って、アルファぶってマウント取ってくるけど、結局は相手にされず、アルファからも弾かれ、今何してるかも全然わかんない（てか興味ない）。
You don't have to agree with classmates reluctantly.
Same fashion, same hair, same modern words, same place, same way home, same activity, same TV show. Agree if you like, if not, you don't have to do.
It's worthless to imitate others while you don't like it.
Childish people with no pride tend to be arrogant, but unfortunately they will be isolated or removed someday. I don't care about them.
だから一周回って、自分の好きなことをブラさず一生懸命やってる人の方が素敵に映るんだと思います。
不潔とか、やたら距離が近いとか、そのへん気をつけておけば、ひとまず大丈夫じゃないかな。
So, people who be honest about their interests and tries hard, is cool.
You're Okay, unless unclean appearance or no delicacy anyway.
残念ながら私が高校生の頃にはＳＮＳがそれほど普及しておらず、折り紙トークができる人はほとんどいませんでした。

When I was a teenager, unfortunately social media haven't been popular and there's few origamists who I can talk with.
(It was really meaningful that I met Kawacho-san, high school alumni)
しかし今はＳＮＳ全盛期です。
リアルにいなきゃ、ネットに飛び込めば良い。
ひとたびＸを覗くと並外れた作品に度肝を抜かれます。グループだけでなく、一匹狼のヤバイ人も結構います。コメントやＤＭでいくらでも交流できるし、それがきっかけで感動的な出会いに繋がることもあるのです。
私の知る範囲だけでも、今の中高生、それどころか小学生も、広大なコミュニティの中でそれぞれの個性を光らせ、切磋琢磨しています。
ＪＯＡＳのコンベンションは同窓会よろしく、遠方の同志たちとの交流をエンジョイしています。中には会場内で黙々と過ごす人もいますが、誰一人として蔑んだりしません。皆それぞれの情熱とトキメキを持って、折り紙と向き合っていることを知っているからです。

But now many people are familiar with various social media. If there's no comrade, jump in.
There are countless incredible works, group, and solo creators or players. You can contact them easily and perhaps you may meet unforgettable friends.
Even my surroundings, recent kids or teenagers are all uniqe & brilliant, and improve eachother in vast origami community.
In JOAS Convention, some please the reunion, some spend their own time bein absorbed silently. No one makes fun of them, because everyone knows all participants are facing origami with their own passion and excitement.
こうした「同志」の存在は、迷う自分に光を当ててくれる道しるべであり、行き詰まった感情の「逃げ道」であり、「自分はこれで良いんだ」と再認識させてくれるのではないでしょうか。
それはオンライン・オフライン関係ありません。
良い時代になったものです。
The comrades like them will shine on our heart and show the way to go, show the way to escape for the stuck mind, and recognize us that "I can accept myself as I am".
It doesn't matter if it's On-line or Off-line.
The society has been better.

少々、自慢話みたいになってしまうことをお許しください。
I'll talk about myself.
Excuse me if it's a little boastfully.
誰が読むかも分からないまま開設した公式ブログ「まさにぃの折り紙コラム」は、お陰様で８年目を迎えました。
InstagramやXでも多くの人と交流できるようになりました。昔から私のことを知っている人もいますが、大半は面識のない人です。嬉しいことに、ＳＮＳをきっかけにお会いする人もずいぶん増えました。
I have started my Origami blog, at that time I wonder who on earth read, but it still continues for 8 years.
Now I can interact on Instagram or X. Most of them are person who I've never met. And I actually met some of them, because of social media.
リアルでは成り行きで設立した折り紙サークルが地元で定着し、２歳児からアラナイン（！）まで幅広い人が好き放題やっています。
地域のイベントに出展したり、CAFE RICCOを貸し切ってゲストまで呼んじゃう「遠足」を決行したり、何だかんだ発展しちゃいました。
不思議なことに、来なくなる人もいれば、口コミで新しい人が来てくれることもあり、細々と続いているんですよね。ありがたいことです。
In local, origami class has established by chance and become regular.
There're various members from 2yo baby to under 90, and enjoy freely.
It has expanded to join an exhibition in public hall, hold a day trip to CAFE RICCO while renting out.
Thankfully if some leave, some come through members' recommendation. Anyway it continues on moderate scale.
職場では「折り紙やってる人」というキャラが定着しました。
平日に講座のオファーがあった際には、休暇を取れるよう御配慮もいただいています。
地元の新聞やラジオなどにも出演させていただくこともあります（職場にテレビカメラが乗り込んできたこともありました）。
親しい同僚だけでなく、特に話したこともない人からも「折り紙やってるんだって？」とか声をかけられる機会も増えました（根が自分の殻に閉じこもるタイプなので小恥ずかしい気持ちにもなりますが、悪い気はしません）。
My colleagues have recognized me as an origamist.
If there's a request for an origami seminar on weekday, they thankfully take care that I get time off from work.
There're some opportunities to be featured on local TV, radio, newspaper (one day TV camera has entered our office).
Not only close colleagues but also others sometimes talk to me "You're an origamist!?"
(I'm originally shy and it's a little embarrassing, but not so bad.)
いずれにせよ、「一芸ある」というのは、仕事と関係なくても、職場のキャラ作りにポジティブな影響あり、嬉しいやら小っ恥ずかしいやら。
何かやらかすと悪目立ちもしやすいので、注意が必要ですが。

Anyway, "Excel in one skill" contributes to create my personality positive, even if it's not related to the work.
It's so pleasant thing and a little embarrassing. But note that it also stands out in a bad side,
あと、
大人になって「⚫︎⚫︎（メジャーどころ）やってました」という話題は、同じ種目の人ならともかく、意外と話が続かないことも結構あります。
一方で、「折り紙やってました」はそこそこ食いつきが良いです（しかも、大体のオリガミストはナウ現役でやってる）。
飲み屋でリフティングはできないけど、やべー写真見せたり、ナフキンや箸袋を折ったりはできる。何かと便利なものです（たまーにＳＮＳフォローしてくれるのも嬉しい）。
Sometimes a common topic that "I've played ⚫︎⚫︎(popular club activity) in the past", it unexpectedly conversation tends not to became lively.
On the other hand, "I've played origami" is well-acceptable (In addition, most of origamists now still plays).
You can't juggle a soccer ball at a bar, but can show the amazing photos of your works or fold a napkin on the table. It can be an advantage (Sometimes they follow my profile!).
買い与えた模造紙を徹夜でいじくり回していた息子に呆れ返っていた母親は、まさか20年後にそいつが折紙師範になるとは思わなかったでしょう。
Mom stumped by her son who was being absorbed in folding too-large paper that she bought for him all the night, would never have expected that he'd be an "Origami Master" 20 years later.
どうやら私は、いわゆる「メジャーどころ」が向いていないようでした。今もそうです。
心から打ち込めないものは、「それが好きで好きで仕方ない人」には勝てないし、下手をすると自分のコンプレックスをまた一つ生み出すだけに終わってしまいます。
Maybe I haven't been good at common popular activities, also now.
People who is not eager to play, never win against the people who really wants to do from the bottom of my heart.
Rather, inferiority complex might be born again, can get nothing, in the end.
幸い私は色々なことに挑戦させてくれる環境があり、その中で本当に好きなことを、（とんでもなく金がかかるモノでなければ）自分の興味のままに選択できました。それを「やめてしまえ」と言われたこともありませんでした。
Fortunately my family and surroundings supported me and promoted to challenge various things, so I could choose the most favorite things according myinterest (unless it's too expensive one).
And, I had never been forced to quit.
結果的に、それが（色んな意味で）ユニークな私を作っています。とても誇らしく思います。
As a result, I've been uniqe, in many ways. Now I'm proud of it.

仲間がいないという理由だけで折り紙を辞めそうになっている人、周りから変な目で見られている、またはそう思ってしまう人。
There may be people who is willing to quit origami, just because no comrade.
There may be people who is feeling that someone makes fun of you.
自分の芯やプライドの形成、そして他者との比較。迷いやすく、ブレやすく、自信過剰と自信喪失を行ったり来たりして、時にどうしようもない孤独感を覚えてしまう。そんな多感な時期が、特に１０代の頃にはある気がします。
折り紙に限らず、今日の言葉が、そんな人に届けば嬉しいです。
Building a core of their heart, their own pride. Comparing to the others. Easy to get lost, easy to hesitate, wandering between overconfidence and loss confidence, sometimes feel terrible loneliness.
Especially teenagers tend to have that sensitive times.
I hope my words will reach you, not only for an origamists.
